It was stated that the most important factor in the increase was not the expenditures and works made for the immigrants within the country but the expenditures made with the aim of reducing the entry to the EU. According to the report, Germany spent 7.9 billion euros in 2018 for refugees to figure out wether they will stay in the hosted country or to return to their home countries. This number shows an increase of 16 percent compared to the previous year.
